Chicago Stolen Bike Registry

Bike was locked up against the fence in the garage. The lock didn’t look like it was cut open but instead as if it was pulled apart to open. The broken lock was then left in my parking space which is how I noticed the bike was stolen.

It must have happened overnight. Shortly after reporting the bicycle stolen, Owner contacted the CSBR with the following message: I found my bike; someone had dragged it to a nearby building's outdoor area. FOUND.

This probably occurred on the evening of Sunday May 17th, as it was raining all day and few were out. The bike was locked to the gate in front of an apartment building, and was held together with an older U-Lock and a combination cable lock. The locks are missing with the bike, but they must have been broken in some way, either cut or otherwise forced open. This all happened on the corner of a residential street across from a public school on the North Side in Lincoln Square.

Date is an estimate, but we anticipate the bike was stolen that weekend. We came out to the garage where we generally keep the bike and it was gone. I think that one of our flatmates left the garage open on accident and someone stole it. That or they somehow managed to open up the garage, go in and take the bike. Either way, someone got in and stole the bike, hung up a spare tire from a broken bike that was near so it looked like something was there, and left. Bike was not locked, but hanging inside the garage.

bike was not locked since it was inside garage that usually remains locked. However, in this case the door was not locked. I dont know the exact date, as I was out of town for 2 weeks and the door must have been unlocked.

The bike was locked in the garage overnight. In the morning you could see that the side door to the garage had been forced open and the bike was stolen.

Bike was stolen from a locked basement of a single family home.

I was in a condo building from around 5:30 pm to 11:30 pm. When I came down, the bike was locked on Ohio and Dearborn. My brother's older bike was locked with my bike to the rack. My brother's bike was resting against a tree about 5 feet from the rack. My bike and the lock were stolen.

Bike was locked up inside our locked garage. Somehow this thief gained entry to our garage and beat the lock.

I had my bike behind a locked 7 foot gate. My neighbors left if open and between 2PM May 12th, and 8 AM May 13th. I am currently canvassing and looking for video footage.

My bike was located in our locked storage unit in our apartment building in the basement. The latch on our storage unit (not the actual lock) was cut through with tin snips. In order to access the basement, one would need a key to both the front door to get in and the basement door for the laundry room and storage units. Foul play, we think so too.. No other units were broken into, just ours. We reside in a Hayes Property Building.

After taking the trash out the automatic garage door was closed but in some instances the door either doesn't close or because we are under low flying planes sometimes the door mysteriously opens. Since the garage door was open most of the night the thieves attempted to steal another bike which was locked to a shelf and a large object. The bike that was stolen was tucked toward the front of the garage (opposite the large door) and was obscured with bungie cords and other items although it was not fomally locked to the wall as is the normal case.

Bike was taken between the hours of 6pm 7th May and 11am 8th May from the secure garage

we believe the bike to have been taken from our yard some time between May 6th the evening and May 7th morning. Probably in the middle of the night. We live in Avondale, and it was somewhat secure in our side yard against a fence, unlocked. We have left many things out here like scooters, strollers over night for long periods of time. This bike had been outside for a few days as well, though we normally put it in our basement. It was taken overnight.

I suspect it was stolen very recently. My bike was locked to my another bike and to the bike rack on the bottom floor of the garage. The locks were cut and the other bike was not taken meaning it had been stolen sometime in early May.

Bike was kept in a locked garage. Access is normally locked from every possible entry point. The bike itself wasn't kept locked, since the garage has been secure for over 8 years. My wife came out the morning of May 2nd to find both garage doors wide open, and my bike gone. Her bike, our tandem bike, our dog bike trailer, and our landlord's car were all untouched. Nobody knows how or why the garage was open.
