The street pole the bike was locked to was knocked over and the pole was removed from the lock.

Kid walked up acting suspicious and asking question. He got on the bike and was riding it. My son told him to get off and he took off on the bike down the street.

Locked bike up at 5:30 PM 7/9/2025 in front of the Columbia Yacht Club. Came back aroun 10 PM on 7/9/2025 and bike and lock were gone, just my helmet was there on the ground.

Bike lock cut while at the Lakeview Athletic Club. Bike was parked slightly in the alley, but 5 feet from a busy sidewalk. One hour after discovering the bike stolen, I found it listed on Facebook Marketplace. I am assuming he is some frequent Chicago bike thief.

Intruder broke into back door of sister high-rise building. Door man chased him through underground parking garage. Intruder ran up stairs from garage into the building, entered the bike storage room, grabbed the bike, and fled through doors that lead from room to outside. Those doors are locked on the outside. [On July 4, 2026 victim reported that the bike had been recovered: "I am happy to report that, almost a year to the day of the theft, I have recovered this bicycle. I would not have recovered it had I not reported the theft on your website.  Late on June 29, I received a text from someone who told me that my bike was listed for sale on Facebook Marketplace.  Two other people texted me the next day informing me of the same. All three people saw the listing on Facebook. The seller included a photo of the serial number of the bike in the listing and the people who contacted me apparently googled the serial number and found the listing on Stolenbike.org.  She included the serial number because she didn’t know much about the bicycle and suggested potential buyers check the serial number on Trek’s website to learn more about the bike.  The seller did not steal my bike. (I really doubt any person who stole a bike would include the serial number on a sales listing.) Whoever stole it abandoned it not far from my residence.  A relative of the seller apparently came upon the abandoned bike and took it.  At some point he moved to Janesville, WI and moved in with the seller. He took the bike with him. The bike has been in this person’s garage for the better part of a year. He moved out and his relative decided to sell the bike. She returned the bicycle to me once I established to her that the bicycle was my stolen bike and she verified with her relative that he had found it abandoned in Chicago. Yesterday I drove to Janesville and picked up the bike.  The person who tried to sell the bike was very gracious. I am very appreciate to you for running this website, the three people who contacted me, and the lady in Janesville who had the bike and returned it to me upon realizing it was mine. As for the bike, it’s in good shape. There are a few light scratches on the top tube and the brakes are squeaky but otherwise the bike works great.  The tires were flat from disuse but I filled them last night and they hold air just fine."]

Bike was tied to bike rack outside coffee shop. I was inside shop for roughly 30 minutes. Bike was gone when I came out.

Pedego Moto Ebike was stolen from in front of workplace on July 7. Bike was locked to metal bike rack, lock is also missing.

bike was kept in a locked garage. perpetrator must have figured out a way into the garage.

Bike was missing after coming home from July 4th weekend. Unsure exactly when it was taken between July 3rd and July 6th. Bike was located next to several others on a bike rack within the locked gates of a residential building.

Locked bike in front of work. Came out at the end of the night and it was gone.

I last used the bike on 6/29/2025 and put it in our locked garage. I was away for work all week from 6/30/2025 to 7/4/2025. When I got back to the garage, the bike was gone. Unfortunately, since I was away all week, I do not have a better estimate of when the bike was stolen. We do share the garage with two other cars. It was suspected that one of the neighbors left the garage door open accidently for a few hours and in this period someone went into the garage and took the bike (they neighbors mentioned the door was left open on 7/1,so this is the suspected date, but cannot say with 100% confidence this was the day it was stolen). The bike was not locked with its U-lock since the garage door is usually shut and locked.

CTA Train Station - Western Orange Line did not allow for me to take my bike to Loop in morning. Was told to lock the bike in bike rack inside. Arrived at 5 PM CT and bike was no longer there and CTA personnel say they are not responsible.

Bike was left leaning on the fence inside front yard and unattended for about 30 minutes, was stolen in between 3:50 - 4:30 pm.

I first locked up my bike on June 29th – prior to this I did not have a bike in Chicago. I hung it next to two other bikes (one of which has been there without a lock for weeks) in a nook underneath back stairs at the far end of the alley, completely out of view from the alleyway. I locked up the bike with a metal chain looped through a hole in the wooden frame, and used a combination padlock through the front tire. I then used a combination U-lock that locked the bike frame to the front tire. According to the security footage, a man walked down the alley at 3:35am and seemed to know exactly where the bikes were stored. He went back to his car and grabbed a tool to cut the lock or chain, and returned at 3:38. By 3:40 you can see him removing the bike, and at 3:42 he drives away. Given that my bike was hanging there for less than 48 hours, out of view of any passersby, it appears that this was a targeted theft with the thief having prior knowledge of where to find the bikes and going after mine specifically. This is corroborated by the fact that there was another bike right next to it that was easier to steal (no lock) and several Amazon packages also right next to it that would have been equally easy to steal.

The business would not allow me to leave my bike inside even for a few minutes so I left it in front. It was stolen pretty quickly.
